what design can do 2012

attended the amazing what design can do conference at the beautiful stadsschouwburg in amsterdam last week. amazingly inspiring conference, wonderful people to meet, quite a few great speakers, fun and interactive breakout sessions, absolutely smooth organization, and a pretty good afterparty in the end!
i made a storify from the #WDCD tweets, reflecting my personal view on the conference!

UnBox Festival: exactly where i need to be next week. luckily, i already have my plane ticket and visa- extremely excited about this!

The UnBox Festival is a response to the emergence of a new subculture: one that straddles the spirit of innovation, is fostered by an enterprising spirit, and invites the engagement of all senses. UnBox manifests itself as a blend of different events – including a conference, workshops, exhibitions and performances – designed in sync with one another, to stimulate thought, debate and action.

nest, the thermostat that learns about you, so you don’t have to learn about it! neat idea, elegant design; very curious how well it will work and how quick you’ll have your money back by saving energy!

available for pre-order in the US now, hope it will be available in germany soon! (thanks dkomm from another nest for the hint!)

openIDEO explained- a platform for collaborative innovation for social good. and there’s quite an active community! jamie oliver’s challenge, for example, received 584 inspirations that generated 194 concepts!

seems to incorporate lots of pieces from design thinking– both have quite a lot of potential to create some game-changing innovations for the better.
