i may have posted this video a while back, if you’re short on time you can check out the trailer. the green movement needs more influencers! transforming into a sustainable future will also need a shift in the culture that surrounds us, it needs to become part of that which produces meaning among our society.

on october 7, the influencer conference is coming to berlin (fb event). the conference took place for the first time in new york last year and “seeks to identify, understand and support influencer culture globally.” this year, it is also happening in berlin and london and i’m very happy to be part of this conference, since it looks like it’s exactly down my alley! the overarching theme for berlin is ‘reaching new audiences’ and the sessions are called: changing to green, making contributions and rebranding the arts. the ‘new by deconstruction’ workshop also looks exciting.

the conference venue is in west berlin, smack down in the ‘city’ – where you can really feel the difference to east berlin. the place is called ’bikini berlin’ and it’s directly at breitscheidplatz where we did the silent climate parade last weekend.

looking forward to engaging conversations with inspiring people next week!

cultural creatives

just heard about this concept of cultural creatives, wikipediad it, and asked myself why i hadn’t heard of this before. then again, i guess much of the work on LOHAS and sinus-milieus builds upon this concept, as well as richard florida’s ‘rise of the creative class’, which i dearly enjoyed. still, seems like a very interesting movie (thanks, jacob)

very interesting conversation on social media, national identity, and culture. unfortunately, i missed this event at social media week berlin, but if this project/conversation continues, i’d like to be a part. after all, this is perhaps why a lot of third culture kids (who usually have a very avantgarde attitude towards national identity) are fascinated by the possibilities of social media.

favorite quote: “everybody is involved in politics, and if they’re not playing, they’re just pawns.”

this was the silent climate parade 2011 – berlin’s contribution to 350.org’s moving planet! people went to the streets in more than 175 countries at more than 2000 events to tell our leaders that we want to start moving towards a renewable future!

what a beautiful day it was in berlin! almost 1000 people joined us on that day that was full of sun and smiles to make our message clear! for more pictures from the parade click on the pictures below, they will take you to two different facebook albums:

it was a great experience to organize this event, and the day made up for all the work of organizing it. thanks to everybody who helped make this possible! hope we’ll dance again next year, maybe with even more people but hopefully just as silent and fun!

good fucking design advice for monday morning

nice video for a very interesting looking event: WASH social art festival in hamburg – november 10-22!

on september 24, more than 1500 people will dance silently through the streets of berlin for a renewable future! the music will come from a DJ on an electric car (powered by green energy!), but not played over loudspeakers, but through headphones! this is the silent climate parade!

on the 350.org international day of climate action ’moving planet’, we want to show that a renewable future can be fun, probably even should be fun! we need to be creative. be open for new experiences. for example with a demonstration that’s a little different- more colorful, less obtrusive, more fun.. and hopefully it will touch not only the brain but also the heart!

hundredthousands of people worldwide will be part of moving planet on september 24- join us and let’s start moving towards the renewable future!

[EDIT: i would never have thought i’d post a video from fox, but it seems to be the best video available] here a good video on the #occupywallstreet protests, since most media outlets seem to be ignoring these news. people are gathering outside of the wall street financial institutions and protesting! apparently, adbusters started mobilizing for this protest, and then anonymous jumping on board.

it appears that the ‘arab revolutions’ are inspiring people all over the world to take their frustration to the streets and protest the systems that so obviously fail us. for two years now, it feels like we are living in a constant state of crisis. with governments all around the world failing to address these systemic problems, it’s great to see people claiming their democratic rights and speak out. this is reason for hope that we won’t be ’shocked’ into more neoconservative disaster capitalism.

[EDIT: nice collection of images and videos at al jazeera]

wow, indeed very fascinating (thanks, daniel kruse)
