it might be difficult to understand (which i’m not using in the sense of ‘approve of’) your adversary/opponent, but at the same time, a) this might lead to an more balanced understanding of the situation and b) there isn’t a more powerful analysis for your success strategy. this is what sun tsu had to say about it:

“if you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. if you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. if you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.” —sun tsu
